Look for repeated judgement
The best opportunities combine repetitive information handling with a clear rule for escalation. Purely exceptional work is a poor first target.
Quantify the current loss
Estimate time, delay, error and missed follow-up. Without a baseline, an automation demo cannot become an operating improvement.
Protect the decision points
Use human review for high-impact, ambiguous or sensitive decisions. Define what the system may suggest and what only a person may approve.
Design failure paths
Every integration needs logging, retries, ownership and a manual fallback. Reliable automation is defined by how it handles exceptions.
